The Story of the Autograph
Mark Murphy is a former safety in the NFL. He played from 1980 to 1991 and spent his entire career with the Packers in Green Bay.
Mrphy is a native of Canton, Ohio, the home of the NFL Hall of Fame. He started out playing on both sides of the ball. During his high school career two high schools merged and because of so many players then being on the team, he got to focus on playing as a defensive back. He was All-League and All-County in his senior year and went on to play college football at West Libery State. He went undrafted and in 1980 the Packers signed him as a free agent.
The start of his career was not great. In his first preseason game he broke his wrist and was out almost the whole year. He came back for the final game of the 1980 season. The following year was a different story. Because of injuries, Murphy was starting midway through the season. By 1983 he was starting more often than not and in 1984 he was a fixture in the defensive backfield for the Pack.
1986 he suffered a stress facture in his foot that was a potential career ender, but Murphy got through that to play for several more years. He ended his career starting in 122 of the 147 games he played in. He intercepted 20 passes and returned one for a touchdown. He also had 13 fumble recoveries and 11 sacks.
The Score on Mark Murphy – 6.5
This is a really nice return from Mark. I think the 1991 Topps card game him the best place to show off his signature while the others are a bit busy and dark. One thing I really like is on the 1991 Pinnacle card he really fit his signature into the best place to show it off rather than going into the black part of the card.
Thanks Mr. Murphy! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
