The Story of the Autograph
Dave Stegman is a former outfielder in the major leagues. His playing career in the majors spanned from 1978 to 1984. He played for the Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox.
Stegman is a California native. He was drafted coming out of high school by the Minnesota Twins in the tenth round of the 1972 MLB Draft but chose not do sign. Instead he went to the University of Arizona. He was drafted two more three more time before ultimately signing with the Tigers after they took him in the first round of the 1976 MLB Draft with the second overall pick.
He had a few successful games in the minors before making his first major league appearance on September 4, 1978. He played in just a handful of games in 1978 and 1979 before getting into what would be a career high 65 in 1980. After the 1980 season he was traded to the Padres and didn’t appear in the majors in 1981.
Before the ’81 season he was sent to the Yankees to complete a prior deal. He only made it into two major league games with New York though. He moved on to the White Sox as a free agent where he would have his most eventful season in 1984 when he played in 55 games with a .261 average, two homers and eleven RBI. He would try to continue playing through 1986 but never made it back to the majors.
The Score on Dave Stegman – 6.5
Dave has a pretty nice signature. It’s seems like it has a lot of action in it. Unfortunately the 1984 Topps card it looks like had a dying marker. I’m wondering if he changed it to sign the two 1985 Topps cards because those came out really great.
Thanks Mr. Stegman! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
