The Story of the Autograph

Greg Cadaret is a former left-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He worked mostly as a reliever in during his ten-year career, playing from 1987 to 1998 with the Oakland Athletics, New York Yankees, Cincinnati Reds, Kansas City Royals, Toronto Blue Jays, Detroit Tigers, Anaheim Angels and Texas Rangers.

Cadaret is a native of Michigan. He went to college at Grand Valley State University and played baseball for the Lakers. The Oakland Athletics drafted him in the eleventh round of the 1983 MLB Draft, making him the first draft pick from Grand Valley State ever. After a few years in the minors he made his major league debut on July 5, 1987.

He was with the Athletics on their run to the 1988 World Series that they eventually lost to the Dodgers. But the next year he was traded in the middle of the season to the Yankees along with Eric Plunk, Luis Polonia for Rickey Henderson. He would play the most in New York during his career (four seasons) and he had his best year with them in 1991 when he went 8-6 in 68 games with five starts and 121.2 innings pitched with a 3.62 ERA.

After his time in New York he was traded around a lot. After moving to Cincinnati in 1993 he pitched for six teams over four seasons and didn’t appear in the majors in 1995 or 1996. After his major league career ended he went into coaching in college and the minors.

I love Greg’s big “G” that starts it all off. I think that the little loop at the end is supposed to be the rest of his name and not necessarily just an initial. These cards came out really good though as all of them give a pretty good place to show off his signature. I think my favorite is the 1992 Topps card though because that’s the best image of all of these.

Thanks Mr. Cadaret! I’m giving this return a 7.
