The Story of the Autograph
Vin Mazzaro is a former right-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 2009 to 2016 with the Oakland Athletics, Kansas City Royals, Pittsburgh Pirates, Miami Marlins, and San Francisco Giants.
Mazzaro was born and raised in New Jersey where he was part of a high school team that won two consecutive state championships. He was drafted out of high school by the A’s in the third round of the 2005 MLB Draft and made his major league debut a few years later on June 2, 2009. He started his career as a starter in Oakland and then became more of a reliever after that. After two seasons the A’s traded him with another player to the Royals for David DeJesus.
He didn’t play a whole lot in two seasons with the Royals and was traded with Clint Robinson for Luis Santos and Luis Rico. He continued to move around until he got to Pittsburgh where he had his best season. In 2013 he pitched in 57 games and 73.2 innings, putting up a 8-2 record with a career low 2.81 ERA. Unfortunately he kept moving after that and played his last game on May 5, 2016 while with the Giants.
In more recent years he’s kept his career going in the Independent minor leagues while still trying to make it with a major league team. He’s had stints with the Somerset Patriots, Long Island Ducks and last year with the Sussex County Miners after coming out of retirement.
The Score on Vin Mazzaro – 6.0
Vin does a good job to fill up the card. I think the choice of marker really impacted the success of the signature. The silver just doesn’t stick out very well on this card, but it might on others. He’s definitely a guy I don’t really have cards of so this was sort of a flyer when I found him playing still in the minor leagues.
Thanks Mr. Mazzaro! I’m giving this return a 6.
