The Story of the Autograph
Kerry Ligtenberg is a former right-handed relief pitcher in the major leagues. He played in eight seasons from 1997 to 2005 with the Atlanta Braves, Baltimore Orioles, Toronto Blue Jays, and Arizona Diamondbacks.
Ligtenberg was born in South Dakota and grew up in Minnesota. He went attended the University of Minnesota and was never drafted. He was purchased by the Mariners as a replacement player during the players strike from a Minor League team in 1995 and then again by the Braves in 1996. He made his major league debut one year later on August 12, 1997.
His best season by far was 1998. He replaced Mark Wohlers as the closer and went 3-2 with a 2.71 ERA and converted 30 of 34 saves. That was good enough for him to be fourth in the Rookie of the Year voting. After his last year in Atlanta in 2002 he bounced around a bit. He continued in the minor leagues as late as 2009.
After his playing days ended he worked as a pitching coach for the St. Paul Saints and now has moved on to coach other places.
The Kerry Ligtenberg – 3.0
Kerry probably has a nice signature, but this one just plain came out badly. It looks like it start off well, and then halfway through it I’m not sure what happened. It looks like fingerprints so maybe that is part of it. I would bet it maybe rubbed in the envelope too.
Thanks Mr. Ligtenberg! I’m giving this return a 3.
