The Story of the Autograph
Tim Foli is a former infielder in the major leagues. His career spanned sixteen seasons from 1970 to 1985 and during that time he played for six teams: New York Mets (twice), Montreal Expos, San Francisco Giants, Pittsburgh Pirates (twice), California Agnels, and New York Yankees.
Foli was born and raised in California. He starred in baseball and football in high school, earning a scholarship offer from USC. But the New York Mets drafted him at seventeen with the first overall pick of the 1968 MLB Draft and he decided to play professional baseball. He made his major league debut for them two years later on September 11, 1970.
The Mets traded Foli and two other prospects (Ken Singleton and Mike Jorgensen) to get Rusty Staub from the Expos. Foli had some of his better years in Montreal but they were never a winning team. Still that helped him become a popular player up north with the fans. After Montreal he became a journeyman player.
In 1979 he was with the Pirates for their World Series Championship season and he had a pretty good year. He had a career high .291 average with one home run and a career high tying 65 RBI.
After his playing career was done Foli coached in the majors, minors and even internationally in the Caribbean.
The Score on Tim Foli – 6.0
This is one of those that was out for quite a while and I had written it off and forgotten about it. Tim’s signature is pretty nice. It’s not huge but it’s not small either. I wonder if it would look better with a thicker marker. I do like that I got a Mets cards (and the Mets card I like the best of these) and with him as a Pirate since he won a championship with them.
Thanks Mr. Foli! I’m giving this return a 6 overall.
