The Story of the Autograph
Randy Martz is a former major league pitcher. He played from 1980 to 1983 and spent his time in the majors entirely in Chicago with both the Cubs and the White Sox.
Martz is a Pennsylvania native. He went to college at the University of South Carolina and was the Most Valuable College Player in 1977 while going 14-0 for the Gamecocks. The Cubs drafted him twelfth overall in the first round of the 1977 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut just a few years later on September 6, 1980.
He got more significant time the next two years with the Cubs and record-wise improved each year going 5-7 in 1981 and 11-10 in 1982. In January of 1982 he was traded with Scott Fletcher, Pat Tabler and Dick Tidrow to the White Sox for Steve Trout and Warren Brusstar. The White Sox had him in the minors and he only appear in one major league game in 1983. He never made it back to the majors after that.
After baseball he coached at Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville, MacMurray College, and Lewis and Clark Community College. He also later managed and was a pitching coach in the minors with two independent teams.
The Score on Randy Martz – 6.5
I hate to say that Randy has a pretty standard signature. I don’t mean that as a knock at all. It’s more that the style and size are common, really for anyone not just players we TTM. The one thing I will not about Randy’s signature on these is that this a great example of my favorite marker. It goes with the team colors, it’s a great thickness, and it comes out super clean on these.
Thanks Mr. Martz! I’m giving this return a 6.5 overall.
