The Story of the Autograph
Wade Davis is a relief pitcher in the major leagues. He started with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2009 and has moved to the Kansas City Royals, Chicago Cubs, and Colorado Rockies since then. He currently pitches for the Royals.
Davis is a Florida native and was drafted by the Rays in the third round of the 2004 MLB Draft out of high school. The Rays brought him up in 2009 and he debut on September 6th of that season. He started his career with the Rays as a starting pitcher and had a couple pretty good season before they moved him to the bullpen in 2012.
The Rays traded him to the Royals and they had him go back to being a starter. Ultimately he would go back to the pen the next season as the Royals would start to shape a back end of the staff that would be pretty amazing with Greg Holland, Kelvin Herrera and Ryan Madson. He got Cy Young votes in 2014 and 2015 and made it to the All-Star game in three consecutive seasons from 2015 to 2017. 2015 being the most special as the Royals defeated the Mets in the World Series.
He went to the Cubs via trade before the 2017 season and continued to increase his save totals at 32 for the year. 2018 was even better. After moving to Colorado as a free agent he would lead the NL in saves with 43. Injuries and a decline in performance over the next couple years forced him out of the closer role with the Rockies and they cut him at the end of the season. He’s now in is second stint with the Royals.
The Score on Wade Davis – 7.5
I think anyone with a “W” in their name is probably on track to have a zig zag style signature and Wade is no different. But then he throws in that circle and I like how it takes covers the whole autograph on the 2017 card. I’m guessing that’s part of his “D”.
Thanks Mr. Davis! I’m giving this return a 7.5.
