The Story of the Autograph
Vance Law played as an infielder in the major leagues from 1980 to 1991. He played for the Pirates, White Sox, Expos, Cubs and Athletics. He also played in the NPB for the Chunichi Dragons in 1990.
Law was born in Boise, ID and he’s the son of Cy Young Award winner Vern Law. He made his major league debut for the Pirates in June of 1980. In those first two years in Pittsburgh he didn’t make it into more than 30 games in either season. In 1982 the Pirates traded him to the White Sox where he got a lot more playing time. After a 1984 season where he showed a bit more power with a career high 17 homers (five was his previous high), he was traded to the Montreal Expos. He moved on to the Cubs as a free agent in 1988.
He had a career year in 1988 and was rewarded with an All-Star nod. That was a great year for the Cubbies as they had five other players named to the game as well. In 151 games he hit .293 (career high) with 11 homers and 78 RBI (career high).
Later on Law would move on to coaching and was the head coach at BYU from 2000 to 2012.
The Score on Vance Law – 7.5
Vance always has a nice and neat signature. He always uses a great marker and he always fills up the card. Some of these show a little hesitation from signatures I have in the past (look at the “V”s), but they still come out great. If there was someone who I would say is the poster boy for how I like someone to fill up the card with their signature, it would be Vance.
Thanks Mr. Law! I’m giving these a 7.5.
