The Story of the Autograph
Tucker Ashford is a former third baseman in the major leagues. He played from 1976 to 1984 with the San Diego Padres, Texas Rangers, New York Yankees, New York Mets, and Kansas City Royals.
Ashford was born and raised in Tennessee. He went to Southwest Tennessee Community College and was drafted in the first round of 1974 MLB Draft with the second overall pick by the Padres. He made his major league debut just two years later on September 21, 1976.
He spent the longest part of his career with the Padres, three years from 1976 to 1978. While he started to get some playing time in 1977 and 1978, he never played more than 35 game in a season after 1979. He didn’t appear in the majors in 1980 and was traded in a deal involving Gaylord Perry to the Rangers.
That started a lot of trades in his career. He was traded to the Yankees, purchased by the Blue Jays, returned to the Yankees, traded to the Mets, then traded to the Royals and purchased by the Orioles. During that time he also didn’t appear in the majors in 1982.
His final career line, a .232 batting average with six homers and 55 RBI in 222 games.
The Score on Tucker Ashford – 4.5
Tucker has a pretty standard signature and really the score isn’t mcuh about anything he did. I sent him some pretty darn beat up cards to sign. That 1978 Topps card almost appears to have been a wallet card. Not mine though.
Thanks Mr. Ashford! I’m giving this return a 4.5.
