The Story of the Autograph

Tony Delk is a former guard in the NBA. He played from 1996 to 2008 in the NBA Greece and Puerto Rico. The teams he played for were the Charlotte Hornets, Golden State Warrior, Sacramento Kings, Phoenex Suns, Boston Celtics, Dallas Mavericks, Atlanta Hawks, Detroit Pistons, Panathinaikos, and Gigantes de Carolina.

Delk is a native of Tennessee. He was named Mr. Basketball in the state during his senior year of high school and was both a Parade and McDonald’s All-American. He went on to have a great career at Kentucky where he would help the team to a National Championship in 1996. That season he was also the SEC Player of the Year, First-Team All-American, and the Final Four Most Outstanding Player.

His great play and honors in college made him worth of a first round pick. The Hornets drafted him with the 16th overall pick in the 1996 NBA Draft. He would go on to be a role player in the league and jumped around to several teams, never staying with one team for more than two seasons and being traded frequently. His best season might have been 2000-01 in Phoenix when he played in all 82 games with eleven starts and averaging a career high 12.3 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2 assists and almost a steel per game.

He went on to play in Greece where he helped Panathinaikos to the Greek League Championship, Greek Cup, and EuroLeague Championship in 2007. He would go to Puerto Rico but only play in three games before retiring and then being an assistant coach with the team. He later went on to coach at Kentucky and New Mexico State as an assistant.

The Score on Tony Delk – 6.5

I love the way that Tony signs that “D”. It almost looks as if its his “T” but its not. If you look carefully he usually includes the vertical part of the “T” in there but the loop of the “D” almost could look like he is crossing a “T”. I think I also have a thing for a double zero guy. The best of these cards for me is the ’04 Upper Deck.

Thanks Mr. Delk! I’m giving this return a 6.5 overall.
