The Story of the Autograph

Tommy Boggs was a pitcher in the major leagues for all or part of nine seasons. He played for the Rangers from 1976 to 77, then the Braves from 1978 through 1983 and then finally a year with the Rangers in 1985. He was the second overall pick in the 1974 draft out of high school in Austin, Texas.

Through most of his career he was a starting pitcher (aside from the last two years). His saw some action in 1976 and then again in 1978 when he made it in to 13 and 16 games respectively, but his most active time in the majors was 1980 and 1981 while he was with the Braves. He started 50 games in those two years. In 1980 he had a solid 12-9 record with a 3.42 ERA. 1981 was more of a struggle with a 3-13 record and a 4.10 ERA.

Boggs was actually the pitcher on the mound for the first time Bobby Cox was ejected from the game.

Tommy has a pretty solid signature. It’s not the biggest autograph, but not the smallest. It’s not the fanciest, but it isn’t completely boring and you can recognize what he is signing. He uses a good marker and it came out well on this card. That isn’t always the case on some of these older cards where they can have a tendency to bleed a bit.

Thanks Mr. Boggs! I’m giving this a 5.
