The Story of the Autograph
Tom Hausman was a right-handed starting pitcher in the major leagues with the Milwaukee Brewers, New York Mets, and the Atlanta Braves. He played for eight years from 1975 through 1982.
Hausman was drafted in 1971 by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 9th round. He spent the next several years in their farm system and made is major league debut in April of 1975. The Brewers were a bit desperate for starters that year and brought him up. With a back injury that year he was limited to 29 games with nine of them being starts. The next season he only appeared three times and spent the rest of the season in AAA ball. In 1977 he spent the entire year in the minors and was a free agent at the end of the season.
He was signed by the Mets and still spent time in the minors in 1978 and 1979. He would split time in New York and in Norfolk. Then in 1980 he finally broke through and spent the whole year in New York. He was their number two man in the bullpen and played in a career best 55 games. In 1981 he was slowed by an elbow injury and again split time in the minors and was traded to Atlanta.
While he attempted comebacks over the next several years in the Pacific Coast League with the Pirates and Dodgers he never made it back to the bigs.
The Score on Tom Hausman – 6.5
Tom has a nice, classic style signature and although it’s not tall, it’s definitely long. I love the way it really goes all the way across that ’79 Topps card. The ’80 Topps is also a good signature but that dark background behind his first name is not doing it any favors.
I’m giving this one a 6.5. Thanks Mr. Hausman!
