The Story of the Autograph
Todd Greene is a former catcher in the major leagues. He played from 1996 to 2006 with the California/Anaheim Angels, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees, Texas Rangers, Colorado Rockies, and San Francisco Giants.
Greene is a native of Georgia. He went to Georgia Southern and had a great college career. He was drafted three times before signing. First the Braves drafted him out of high school in 1989 and then the Cardinals drafted him while in college. The Angels then drafted him in the 12th round of the 1993 MLB Draft and he signed with them.
He made his major league debut on July 30, 1996. That started his career as a journeyman/back up catcher. He never played more than 97 games in his career and that was in his final season with Anaheim in 1999. From there he moved around a bunch, never spending more than two seasons with a team. All of those moves were as a free agent. But Todd did have some big moments. He caught the first pitch thrown by President George W. Bush prior to Game 3 of the 2001 World Series.
It was ultimately injuries that ended his career. In 2006 he was in a home plate collision with Prince Fielder that destroyed his shoulder. The next season he had a rotator cuff injury in Spring Training with the Padres and never made it back to the majors.
The Score on Todd Greene – 7.0
I really like that 1995 Upper Deck card of Todd in a minor league uniform. The blue marker goes really well with that uniform. I’m also realizing these really represent Todd’s career, the start and pretty much the end of it. I also like that this fills out the Rockies part of my collection as well because I don’t have a lot of those compared to other teams.
Thanks Mr. Greene! I’m giving this return a 7.
