Timothy Paul Bogar, born on October 28, 1966, in Indianapolis, Indiana, is a former Major League Baseball (MLB) infielder and current coach, known for his versatility on the field and his extensive coaching career.
Bogar attended Buffalo Grove High School in Illinois, where he excelled in baseball. He continued his athletic career at Eastern Illinois University, further developing his skills and preparing for professional play.
Drafted by the New York Mets in the eighth round of the 1987 MLB Draft, Bogar made his MLB debut on April 21, 1993. Over a nine-year career, he played for the New York Mets (1993–1996), Houston Astros (1997–2000), and Los Angeles Dodgers (2001). Primarily serving as a shortstop, third baseman, and first baseman, Bogar appeared in 701 games, achieving a batting average of .228 with 24 home runs and 161 runs batted in.
Following his playing days, Bogar transitioned into coaching and managerial roles:
- Minor Leagues: Managed teams such as the Greeneville Astros and Lexington Legends, earning accolades including Manager of the Year honors in the Appalachian League.
- Major Leagues: Served as a coach for the Tampa Bay Rays (2008), Boston Red Sox (2009–2012), and Texas Rangers (2014). In September 2014, he was named interim manager for the Rangers, leading the team to a 14–8 record.
- Recent Roles: In 2023, Bogar was appointed manager of the Amarillo Sod Poodles, the Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Tim has one of my favorite signatures. He puts a lot of style in it and the way he works the “B” and “g” in his last name with the bubbly nature of it is really cool. I just wish I had more cards of Tim’s to ask him to sign. He was definitely a part of the Mets teams I followed in high school so I always remember him fondly for that. You’ll notice that I sent this to him when he was with the Nationals and he has moved on from that role.
