The Story of the Autograph
Steve Stanicek is a former pinch and designated hitter in the major leagues. He played during just two seasons: 1987 with the Milwaukee Brewers and 1989 with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Stanicek is a native of Illinois. He was drafted twice before signing to a major league team. First was in 1979 out of high school by the St. Louis Cardinals in the sixteenth round. He then went to the University of Nebraska and played in the Cape Code Baseball League before being selected in the first round of the 1982 MLB Draft by the Giants.
He had a long stint in the minors that involved a trade before he made his major league debut. In March of 1986 the Giants traded him to the Brewers for another minor leaguer. He made his debut with the Brewers the following season on September 16, 1987. But he only made it into four games that season. It was back to the minors for the next season before being released.
He signed with the Phillies in 1989 and they brought him up for just another nine games and that would be the end of his career in the majors. He was released again after the season.
He is the brother of Pete Stanicek and the brothers debuted in the majors just 15 days apart.
The Score on Steve Stanicek – 7.0
There’s not too many cards of Steve out there, so I guess I was lucky that I found I had these. I would bet that if I really looked hard I might find I have a minor league card of his, but that would take a bit I’m sure. These came out great from him. The matching starts to his first and last names has a really cool effect with the style of signature he has. Steve is another example of a guy without too much major league success have a great signature and not that many cards to put it on.
Thanks Mr. Stanicek! I’m giving this return a 7.
