The Story of the Autograph
Steve Bozek is a former left wing in the NHL. He played for eleven seasons between 1981 and 1992. During those years he played for the Los Angeles Kings, Calgary Flames, St. Louis Blues, Vancouver Canucks, and San Jose Sharks.
Bozek is a native of British Columbia, Canada. He played college hockey at Northern Michigan University where he was a First-Team All-American, the first ever from that school, and led the league in scoring. The Kings drafted him before he finished school in the third round of the 1980 NHL Draft. He turned pro after his junior year.
He was immediate a big part of the lineup, getting an opportunity to be part of the Kings’ “Triple Crown Line” with Marcel Dionne and Dave Taylor. He set a rookie record which has since been broken with 33 goals. He also scored a became a hero by scoreing the famed Miracle on Machester goal that tied the Oilers in the greatest combeback in NHL history.
He struggled in his second season and was dealt to the Calgary Flames. They helped him develop the more defensive side of his game and he became a really reliable two-way player. Unfortunately he’d deal with a lot of injuries that cut short his seasons with the Flames. He missed most of the 1987-’88 season with a knee injury.
The Flames sent him to St. Louis with Brett Hull in a deal that brought back Rob Ramage and Rick Wamsley. But he would only play seven games with the Blues because of another knee injury and another deal that sent him to Vancouver. He was able to be on the ince a lot more in Vancouver and helped the Canucks on the defensive side. He earned the nickname “Boom-Boom” because of his play.
Bozek moved on to San Jose to close out his NHL career and then played in Italy and Slovenia before he hung up his skates. After his playing days he earned an MBA from Harvard.
The Score on Steve Bozek – 6.5
Steve has a pretty crazy signature but it’s hard to get a good look at it on these cards. Those old black Canucks uniforms just don’t do any player favors when it comes to signing. He tried to work around it on the 1991 Bowman card and the 1990 Pro Set card. I think the Bowman came out the best of the bunch. I just don’t have any of his earlier cards with other teams because I definitely wasn’t collecting much hockey back then.
Thanks Mr. Bozek! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
