The Story of the Autograph
Stan Royer is a former corner infielder in the major leagues. He played from 1991 to 1994 with the St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Red Sox.
Royer is a native of Illinois. He was first drafted out of high school by the Braves in the tenth round of the 1985 MLB Draft but didn’t sign. Instead he went on to Eastern Illinois University and played there for three seasons before being drafted by the Athletics in the first round of the 1988 MLB Draft with the fifth overall pick. Before he could make it to the majors, the A’s traded him to the Cardinals with Felix Jose and another minor leaguer for Willie McGee.
He made his major league debut on September 11, 1991. He spent his entire career bouncing between the majors and the minors. He played the most in 1994 when he got into 39 games before being release and picked up by the Red Sox who got him into another four games. He did hit .323 in 13 games in 1992 and .304 in 24 games in 1993.
These days he works in investment advising and wealth management.
The Score on Stan Royer – 7.5
Stan has a really consistent signature. He used a really strong marker and it just pops on all these cards. I think the 1993 Topps “Coming Attraction” card is the best by far. That one was almost built for a signature to go on it.
Thanks Mr. Royer! I’m giving this return a 7.5 overall.
