The Story of the Autograph
Sam Fuld is a former outfielder and current general manager in the major leagues. He played from 2007 to 2015 with the Chicago Cubs, Tampa Bay Rays, Oakland Athletics (twice) and Minnesota Twins. He is currently the general manager of the Philadelphia Phillies.
Fuld was born and raised in New Hampshire and went to a schools in Maine and New Hampshire. After exceling in high school he went on to attend Standford University. He was drafted twice while in college. First was by the Cubs in the 24th round of the 2003 MLB Draft and then again the next year by the cubs in the tenth round. He made his major league debut for the Cubs on September 5, 2007.
He spent a few years with the Cubs up and down from the minors and then got a more significant shot after being traded to the Rays in a deal that also involved Robinson Chirinos. He had three seasons with more than 100 games played while in Tampa Bay. He then moved around a bit before ending his career in 2015 with the A’s. A shoulder injury in 2016 needed surgery and he would end up retiring officially in November of 2017.
Sam has been interested in the metrics and math of baseball since he was a kid. Injuries during his minor league career got him looking into other baseball ideas like reading Moneyball. In looking at this story you can see how he was building to be a general manager.
The Score on Sam Fuld – 6.0
Sam has a sort of “scratch” signature. I don’t think I could recognize it specifically as his if I had to. These cards are a bit busy and blue and the signature mixes into the uniform a little bit. I need to try to find cards of Sam on some other teams and try him again.
Thanks Mr. Fuld! I’m giving this return a 6.
