The Story of the Autograph
Ron Karkovice is a former catcher in the major leagues. He played for twelve seasons from 1986 to 1997 and spent his entire career with the Chicago White Sox.
Karkovice was born in New Jersey and then moved to Florida when he was a kid. He went to school in Orlando, Florida and played with Joe Oliver while he was younger. He was drafted out of high school by the White Sox in the first round of the 1982 MLB Draft with the fourteenth overall pick. He made his major league debut on August 17, 1986.
He was pretty much a part-timer for the first few years of his career and then was player almost half the time in the late 80’s early 90’s. In 1992 he was starting most of the games for the team for four out of the next five seasons. He was a great defensive catcher. His best season was probably 1993 when he hit .228 with 20 home runs and 54 RBIs, those last two numbers career highs. Maybe one of his best moments was an inside the park grand slam he hit in Minnesota in 1990.
After his playing days he coached in the Royals system, then an academy team in Florida and later in the minors with two teams in New Jersey.
The Score on Ron Karkovice – 7.0
Ron’s “R” almost looks like its a “P”. But I think that helps give it some character and makes it a little more recognizable as his signature. I think my favorit of all these cards is the 1992 Upper Deck card. I think that’s because of the image and signature combo. The signature might have come out the best on the 1993 Leaf card.
Thanks Mr. Karkovice! I’m giving this return a 7.
