The Story of the Autograph
Rod Gilbreath is a former infielder. He played in the majors from 1972 to 1978 and spent his entire seven year career with the Atlanta Braves.
Gilbreath was born and raised in Laurel, Mississippi. The Braves drafted him out of high school in the third round of the 1970 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut on June 17, 1972. He was up and down from the minors through the 1974 season. In 1975 he got a good shot and played 90 games.
From 1976 to 1978 he played in at least 116 games. His best season might be 1977 when he his .243 with eight homers and 43 RBI (both career highs) while playing in 128 games. He played his last game on October 1, 1978 but stayed active in the minors until after the 1980 season when he officially retired. After playing he worked as a scout, minor league manager and executive in the Braves organization.
The Score on Rod Gilbreath – 5.5
Rod has what I would call close to a “Revolutionary War” signature in that it almost looks like something you’d find on the Declaration of Independence or something. I think the thin marker and the “G” for some reason add to that look. It also looks like he is almost crossing out his name when he crosses his “t”.
Thanks Mr. Gilbreath! I’m giving this return a 5.5 overall.
