The Story of the Autograph
Rich Rowland is a former catcher who spent parts of six seasons in the major leagues. He played from 1990 to 1995 with the Detroit Tigers and Boston Red Sox.
Rowland was born and raised in California. After high school he went to Mendocino College where he was drafted by the Tigers in the 17th round of the 1988 MLB Draft. He would make his debut for them two seasons later on September 7, 1990.
He never played much at all for the Tigers in four seasons worth of appearances from 1990 to 1993. The most time he ever received in the majors was 21 games in his las year with the Tigers (1993). At the end of his time with the Detroit organization he would put up a .205 average with no homers and four RBI.
Right before the start of the 1994 season he was traded to the Red Sox for John Flaherty. He would have his best season in the majors, but unfortunately the season would be strike-shortened. In 46 games he had a .229 average. But in his 27 hits, one third of them, nine, were home runs that generated 20 RBI. He would play one more season with the Red Sox organization before being released.
He would move on to the Blue Jays and Giants, but never played in the majors for either team.
The Score on Rich Rowland – 4.5
I’m not sure exactly what was going on with these for Rich. I kind of wonder if he attempted different markers before settling on the one for the Stadium Club and Score cards. Those came out OK but then they rubbed off a little bit in the envelope. The other two I really can’t explain very well. They do look like a totally different marker.
Thanks Mr. Rowland! I’m giving this return a 4.5. overall.
