This week I took a kind of last minute trip up to New York to see a family member who isn’t doing very well. For now all is OK, but I hadn’t seen them in years with the pandemic and everything so it was nice to see them. I stayed with some other family and it was good to catch up with them.
One thing I experienced was the difference in cable, internet and wireless signals for them. That might sound like a small thing, but in the realm of working from home and having a billion devices active in your house like you do when stream and have kids… it was different.
My family lives all the way out on the east end of Long Island, on the North Fork. They have Optimum cable I think. All they did was complain – and understandably so. I think everyone’s experience in dealing with a cable company is bad when you have to call them, so that’s a wash. But I have one family member who’s cable is out with their internet as well, and because of the signal they get for their phone they are pretty much in the dark.
Making calls from different places in the house that I’m in is a problem. And it doesn’t seem like their internet is the same level as mine at home so I just wondered it I was here, what would it be like to try and work from home. Especially doing so if the kids are all there.
Seeing something different, even if only slightly different really makes you think about what you have and puts any issues in perspective. I feel like we deal with bigger problems rarely, while this is more of a persistent annoyance.
Stay safe and healthy out there!
The Review
Here’s what happened on the blog last week:
- Monday: Qadry Ismail
- Tuesday: John Stearns, Reuben Droughns
- Wednesday: Ryan Shealy
- Thursday: Greg McMurtry
- Friday: John Mizerock
- Saturday: OJ McDuffie
- Sunday: Bob Molinaro
The #twofortuesday was New York themed, which is fitting given my end of week trip to Long Island. Other than that it was a selection of my oldest stuff in the backlog. But if you’re paying attention, you learned to make sure you spell Qadry’s name correctly.
The Preview
Here’s what I have coming up for this week:
- Monday: Was the son of a Pritchard man…
- Tuesday: My cousin Vinny…
- Tuesday: Johnny on the spot…
- Wednesday: Roy Boy…
- Thursday: A two first-name club member…
- Friday: Graham crackers…
- Saturday: An M&Mer…
- Sunday: A Junior…
No theme overall or a theme for the two for Tuesday. I am throwing in some current football and basketball players this week which I rarely ever have.
Other Notes
This week I had 18 returns with no failures. With me being away at the end of the week it’s always a bit of a mystery as to what I’m getting and then squeezing in my end of the week tasks for all the things I normally do. But my family does a great job of setting aside my mail and they even know how I like to see what came in each day. That’s love right there.
I only had one real straggler this week and that was Kjell Samuelsson who sent something back in 361 days. No other return was out for more than 90 days.
