So what did everyone do for Halloween?
We didn’t do much of anything from a “public” perspective. My kids are teens so luckily they didn’t feel the need to trick-or-treat. But I don’t think we would have trick-or-treated anyway because of how awkward stuff like that is these days. They still wanted to get dressed up though.
The only thing they ended up doing was going around the block to a friends house because their Dad sets up a game for candy every year. I didn’t see it myself but this year it was a sort of Halloween Plinko game. They used little gords or pumpkins down a slide and then depending on what it landed it that determined the candy you got. The big prize was full-size candy.
What we did for ourselves and one neighbor family was have some s’mores at our backyard firepit. I think that’s got to be one of the best socially distanced desserts and experiences I can think of these days.
Oh, my wife and youngest daughter made homemade marshmallows too. They are amazing, but not for over a fire though. They are done in a tray and then cut to squares. That means they don’t have the same outside “crust” as a regular marshmallow and they tend to be really light and melty. It can be done, but it’s a bit of a production. But they are really good and they are great with hot chocolate.
Hope you had a good Halloween!
The Review
Here’s what happened on the blog last week:
- Monday: Phil “Scrap Iron” Garner
- Tuesday: Eugene “Mean Gene, The Hitting Machine” Lockhart, Dan “Thunder Dan” Majerle
- Wednesday: Ron “The Penguin” Cey
- Thursday: Dennis “Count Full Count” Rasmussen
- Friday: Buck Showalter
- Saturday: Josh “Tomahawk” Collmenter
- Sunday: Ricky “Two Months” Proehl
#nickname week was the theme for this week and it was a great way to catch up on some things that didn’t fit into the larger themes I’ve been doing. But you can see that still left some things like the three “Arizona” related posts at the end of the week. I think I missed a chance to make “Count Full Count” my Halloween post though.
Some of the nicknames for this week were a bit obscure, but I didn’t want to go with everything that everybody might already be aware of. So I found a few that might be off the beaten path and maybe not a true “nickname.”
The Preview
Here’s what I have coming up for this week:
- Monday: He’s a guy who is actually on someone else’s card…
- Tuesday: Part of a three-peat…
- Tuesday: Howell are you doing these days?
- Wednesday: Ken doll…
- Thursday: A mouthful of a last name…
- Friday: Probably a “Rosie” in the dugout…
- Saturday: Won’t you marry me Bill…
- Sunday: Ring my Bell…
I’ll say I’m getting back to normal, but I think if I looked back on this year, themed weeks might actually be my “normal” for this year. But what is “normal” this year anyway? Well, no matter what, this week will be a more random collection with no theme to it as I try to prep for a few other themes that could end up going through the end of the year.
Other Notes
A modest week to close out one of the best months I’ve had this year. Ten returns came back this week which keeps the backlog growing. Anything over eight will make that happen because that’s pretty much how many I post in a week.
275 is the latest backlog number at this point.
Stay safe and healthy out there!
