I got out to another George Mason game this weekend. I’m really loving following this team. They are really fun to watch. They’ve been playing really well on the offensive end. But I think what I like even more is that they’ve had a few games where the offense let them down a bit and they’ve stepped it up on the defensive end too.
Coach Skinn is doing an amazing job in his first year. And too think that the line up is basically all brand new with only really their point guard and back up big man coming back. Three of their best players following Coach English to Providence (where I am happy all are doing well so far). It’s nice to have Tony Skinn, a GMU grad and one of the heroes of the 2006 run, on campus and leading them.
The one thing that I think is key right now, is not getting too far ahead of ourselves. You gotta keep that fire to keep winning. The Atlantic 10 is a better league than you think. VCU, even if they aren’t like they usually are this year, is always tough and you can never over look them. But Dayton, St. Louis, Davidson, GW, etc… they can always win games. Other teams are playing pretty well this year too.
I’m just taking it all in and trying to stay positive and enjoy the run.
The other thing I will say is that at yesterday’s game the Racing Presidents where there for “DMV Day.” They are really good mascots. I was watching them with families and kids, heck even with each other, and they do a really good job.
Hope you guys are having a great weekend!
The Review
Here’s what happened on the blog last week:
- Monday: Tim Stoddard
- Tuesday: Wes Chamberlain, Larry Christenson
- Wednesday: Al Fitzmorris
- Thursday: Frank DiPino
- Friday: Garth Iorg
- Saturday: Chris Chandler
- Sunday: Mike Caldwell
I was able to make a Phillies theme to the #twofortuesday this week. It just so happened that both Wes Chamberlain and Larry Christenson were on my list of the next two get out.
The Preview
Here’s what I have coming up for this week:
- Monday: Halama-la…
- Tuesday: Push and Puleo…
- Tuesday: The Goggin…
- Wednesday: From A to zubuike…
- Thursday: Look ma, no Hanzlik…
- Friday: The Rathman of Khan…
- Saturday: Key to the city…
- Sunday: Comic Sanchez…
The #twofortuesday will be Braves themed this week. Ugh, I’ve had two NL East rivals come up in these posts the last two weeks. I gotta put a stop to this.
Other Notes
Another really good week. This time around it was a bit more consistent though. Stepping up what I was sending out at the end of last year is going to pay off for a few weeks, but I have already started slowing back down on the attempts I send out each week.
This week I got back 17 successful returns and two failures. The two failures were from Scott Lewis (who came back as “no such number”) and then Rick Honeycutt (who came back as “vacant”). I’m giving Rick another try because I saw a new address on SCF. None of my successes were paid returns or anythign like that.
I did get a few pretty good stragglers though. The least “straggly” of the stragglers was Clint Barmes in 365 days (although I think my Excel calculation is a little off for some reason). then I had John Orton at 522 days and Tom Goodwin at 925 days. Tom signed something I sent to him while he was with the Red Sox in 2021. I was really surprised to get that one back.

Have a great week!
