The Story of the Autograph
Randy Johnson is a former infielder in the major leagues. He played for the Atlanta Braves in MLB from 1982 through 1984 and then for the Hiroshima Toyo Carp in Japan from 1987 to 1988.
Johnson was born and raised in California. He played both football and baseball in college and was an All State placekicker at Palomar College in 1975. From there he went on to San Jose State and continued in both sports. The Mets drafted him in the 11th round of the 1978 MLB Draft. But he never made it to the major leagues for New York. Instead they traded him in 1980 to the Atlanta Braves for another minor leaguer.
He made his major league debut two years later on April 27, 1982. In three seasons for the Braves he never played more than 91 games and was mostly used as a third baseman (he also played a little a second base). His best season was 1984 when he hit career highs by playing in 91 games with a .279 average, 5 homers and 30 RBI. He was back to the minors in 1985 and the Braves released him at the end of the season.
While the San Francisco Giants picked him up in 1986 he never got past their top minor league level and then moved on to Japan. When he returned from Japan he planed in the Senior Professional Baseball Association and then in the Australian Baseball League. He also work as a scout for the Padres, Rockies, and Tigers, then later as an assistant to Billy Beane with the A’s.
The Score on Randy Johnson – 6.5
Before I started learning more about Randy, I didn’t know just how many Randy Johnsons there were in baseball. And two of them overlapped just a little bit. Randy has a nice signature and while I would say it’s a bit small for me, it came out really well on these cards. The blue of the marker and the bright blue of these jerseys mix just a little bit, but I like how these came out.
Thanks Mr. Johnson! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
