The Story of the Autograph
Pete Ladd was a right-handed relief pitcher in the major leagues from 1979 through 1986. He six season during those year as he didn’t appear in the majors in 1980 or ’81. He played for the Astros, Brewers, and Mariners.
Ladd went to Ole Miss and was originally drafted by the Red Sox in the 25th round of the 1977 MLB Draft. He was traded in June of 1979 to the Astros and made his MLB debut later that season on August 17, 1979. He appeared in 10 games and went 1-1 with a 2.92 ERA. He would stay in the Astros minor league system for the next two years until Houston traded him to the Brewers.
While he only appeared in 16 games in 1982, he was instrumental in the playoffs as he subbed for the injured Rollie Fingers to help the Brewers to the World Series. But after a stumble in the Series he wouldn’t pitch again in the postseason. In 1983 he picked up closing duties and recorded 25 saves.
After he was released by the Brewers after the 1985 season he pitched on more year in Seattle with the Mariners before ending his career in the minor league system for the Dodgers.
The Score on Pete Ladd – 5.5
Pete has a nice and puffy signature. The issue I have with a lot of these is that the marker seems to be running out of ink or they were signed so fast that it got a bit streaky. They look OK in the picture but some of the cards are a bit hard to see the signature on with it being blue on blue.
Thanks Mr. Ladd! I’m giving this return a 5.5.
