The Story of the Autograph
Paul Zuvella is a former shortstop in the major leagues. He played from 1982 to 1991 with the Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians, and Kansas City Royals.
Zuvella is a native of California. He went to Stanford after high school and was drafted twice before signing with a major league team. He was first drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 11th round of the 1979 MLB Draft. A year later he was drafted by the Braves in the 15th round of the 1980 MLB Draft and chose to sign with them. He made his first major league appearance two years later on September 4, 1982.
He spent the first four years of his career in Atlanta and didn’t play very much at all during his first three. He played just five games during his first two and then eleven in his third. But in 1985 he got a bigger shot and appeared in what would be a career high 81 games. During those games he hit .253 with four RBI.
The Yankees traded for him in the middle of the 1986 season as they had been trying a lot of shortstops out during the mid-80’s. Zuvella went to New York along with Claudell Washington for Ken Griffey and Andre Robertson. He was their solution though and ended up being released the next year. He tried to make it with the Indians and Royals before his career in the majors was done.
After playing he worked within in the Rockies organization.
The Score on Paul Zuvella – 5.0
Paul signed these with both blue and black thin markers. I love that attention to detail to sign with colors that might got better with the team colors on the card, if in fact that was what he was doing. But he could have just been running out of ink in the blue based on the 1989 Upper Deck card. I think I like the 1987 Topps card as the best of this bunch.
Thanks Mr. Zuvella! I’m giving this return a 5.
