The Story of the Autograph
Paul Assenmacher is a former left-handed relief pitcher in the major leagues. He played in fourteen seasons from 1986 to 1999. During that span he played with the Atlanta Braves, Chicago Cubs, New York Yankees, Chicago White Sox, and Cleveland Indians.
Assenmacher was born and raised in Michigan. He played at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan and was never drafted. The Braves signed him as an amateur free agent in July of 1983. He made his major league debut three years later on April 12, 1986. He had one of his best seasons during his rookie year, going 7-3 in 61 games with a 2.50 ERA pitching in 68.1 innings with 56 strikeouts.
He spent three and a half years with the Braves until he was traded to the Cubs for players to be named later. Those players would later be Kelly Mann and Pat Gomez in September of 1989. That was the start of three trades that would make up the next moves involving him. The Cub traded him to the Yankees as part of a three-team deal that also involved the Royals in 1993. Then before the 1994 season the Yankees sent him to the White Sox. His final move was to go to the Indians as a free agent.
He closed out his career with several good seasons for the Indians as they went to the post season each year he was there including two World Series appearances in 1995 and 1997. Unfortunately they were loses to the Braves and Marlins respectively.
The Score on Paul Assenmacher – 7.5
I hadn’t sent to Paul in a really long time. I think I was avoiding him because he was charging a while back and I saw others getting returns from him recently with no fee. These came back looking great. The blue marker with the Braves and Cubs uniforms is awesome. Plus the 1993 Upper Deck is a great card in general and it looks good with some ink on it.
Thanks Mr. Assenmacher! I’m giving this return a 7.5.
