The Story of the Autograph

Pat Scanlon is a former infielder in the major leagues. He played from 1974 to 1977 with the Montreal Expos and San Diego Padres.

Scanlon was born and raised in Minnesota. He was drafted out of high school by the Expos in the fifth round of the 1970 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut right before the end of the 1974 season on September 24th. He only played in two games that year. He came back the next season and got into 60 games, a career high, but only hit .183 with two homers and fifteen RBI.

After two more seasons in Montreal he was traded to the Cardinals with Steve Dunning for Bill Grief, Sam Mejias and Angel Torres. But before he could appear with the Cardinals, they traded him to San Diego with John D’Acquisto for Butch Metzger. Unfortunately he didn’t fare much better with the Padres. He would move back to the Expos organization and then finish his career in the White Sox farm system, but never appeared in another major league game.

The Score on Pat Scanlon – 5.5

Pat has a small signature, or at least he does on this card. There really isn’t much of a place to put a good signature on this one. He either has to sign his head, or the black background and I don’t think either one of those are good choices.

Thanks Mr. Scanlon! I’m giving this return a 5.5.
