The Story of the Autograph
Nate Snell is a former right-handed relief pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1984 to 1987 with the Baltimore Orioles and the Detroit Tigers.
Snell was born and raised in South Carloina. He was first drafted by the Orioles in the 18th round of the 1972 MLB Draft while he was in high school but he never signed. The Braves then drafted him in the 22nd round of the 1975 MLB Draft while he was at Tennessee State University, but he still didn’t sign. From there his career took some twists and turns and he always came back to the Orioles. And this was all before he appeared in his first game.
- 1976: Signed by Orioles as amateur free agent
- 1979: Drafted by Giants from the Orioles in the 1979 Minor League Draft
- 1981: Released by Giants and signed by the Orioles
- 1983: Becomes free agent
- 1984: Signs with the Orioles
He made his first Major League appearance at the end of the 1984 season on September 20th. He would pitch in relief for five appearances and go 1-1 with a 2.35 ERA. He made a career high 43 appearances in 1985 with a 3-2 record and 2.69 ERA. In some ways when you look at his MLB numbers, it makes you think how he didn’t get more of a chance in the majors. He had solid numbers.
He moved on to Detroit in 1987. After that he was back in the minors in the Reds’ organization but never made the majors again and retired in 1990.
The Score on Nate Snell – 6.0
Nate has a pretty nice autograph. I like the way he wraps around the “e” to cross his “t”. A couple of these cards are smudged though. The 1986 card is most obvious right in the middle there. Both of the 1987 Donruss cards look like the got more rubbed in the envelope than anything else but the one you see is the best one. That took the score down a bit.
Thanks Mr. Snell! I’m giving this return a 6.
