The Story of the Autograph
Nate McMillan is a former guard and head coach in the NBA. He played from 1986 to 1998 with the Seattle SuperSonics. He later coached the Sonics, Portland Trail Blazers, Indiana Pacers, and Atlanta Hawks.
McMillan is a native of North Carolina, specifically from Raleigh. He wasn’t recruited to go to a big school and started off at Chowan College. From there he went on to North Carolina State to play for Jim Valvano and the Wolfpack. He helped the team to a share of the ACC title in 1985 and Elite Eight appearances in 1985 and 1986. The SuperSonics drafted him with the 30th overall pick in the 1986 NBA Draft.
He was a great defensive player. In 1993-94 he lead the league in steals with three per game. He also made the All-Defensive team twice in his career. His career numbers on the court, a lot of which were as a sub, were 5.9 points per game, 6.1 assists per game, 1.9 steals per game, and 4.0 rebounds per game.
After playing McMillan went into coaching. In nearly each case, except for with the Blazers, he started out as an assistant and then became the head coach. Unfortunately in his most recent job with the Hawks he was fired at the beginning of February 2023 after having a bit of a disappointing run this season.
The Score on Nate McMillan – 6.5
This was one of those team attempts that I really didn’t know if I would get it back. I was glad I sent it but since it was successful, I kind of wish I had picked better cards. But you just never know. If I knew he would sign or had experience with him I might have sent better ones that would show off his signature. Still, that 1994 Upper Deck card came out really great.
Thanks Mr. McMillan! I’m giving this return a 6.5 overall.
