The Story of the Autograph

Mike Easler is a former major league outfielder. He played from 1973 for the Astros, Angels, Pirates, Red Sox, Yankees, and Phillies. Before retiring he also played in Japan with the Nippon-Ham Fighters.

Easler was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio. He was drafted by the Houston Astros out of high school in the 14th round of the 1969 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut with the Astros four years later on September 5, 1973. He only played a few games over a couple of seasons and was traded to the Cardinals. But the Cardinals never brought him up to the majors. At the end of the 1976 season the Cardinals traded him to the Angels.

He appeared in a few games at the end of that season, but was traded to the Pirates before the 1977 season. After moving around a bunch to start his career, that was a good thing for Easler. While he would spend a good amount of time in the minors, he would be back up in 1979 and play a good role as a pinch hitter to help the Pirates beat the Orioles for a World Series title. He continued to play well with the Pirates until the 1984 season when he moved on to Boston.

He spent time in Boston, New York and Philly before having to move on to Japan. Then he finished his career playing in the Senior Professional Baseball Association in 1990. More recently he’s worked as a coach in the minors and majors.

Mike has a nice signature and I really love that “E”. He fills up the card really well. The only problem is that these card really don’t allow him to show off his signature. The Pirates cards are definitely my favorites, especially the 1983 Topps card.

Thanks Mr. Easler! I’m giving these a 6.
