The Story of the Autograph
Mike Cubbage is a former third baseman and manager in the major leagues. He played from 1974 through 1981 with the Rangers, Twins and Mets. He later managed the Mets and then coached with the Mets, Astros and Red Sox.
Cubbage was born and raised in Charlottesville, VA. He stayed local for college and went to the University of Virginia to play baseball and football. His cousins were also major leagues and he kept the family thing going when he was drafted by the Washington Senators in the second round of the 1971 MLB Draft (after being drafted by them in 1968 and not signing). But by the time he first appeared in the majors, April 7, 1974, the Senators had moved to Texas to become the Rangers.
His best seasons came in Minnesota when he got some more playing time. His best years would probably be 1977 and 1978 when he hit his highest average, home run and RBI numbers for his career.
After his career ended he started coaching in the minors with the Mets and then was brought up to the big leagues as a coach. He even managed in 1991.
The Score on Mike Cubbage – 6.0
Mike has a really nice signature and most times it really sticks out on the card. The 1976 Topps card is my absolute favorite of the bunch here though. The marker he used really helps.
Thanks Mr. Cubbage! I’m giving this return a 6.
