The Story of the Autograph
Matt Olson is a first baseman who currently plays for the Oakland Athletics. He’s played in the majors since 2016.
Olson was born and raised in Georgia where he played first base and pitched for his high school team and helped them to back-to-back state championships. While he had committed to Vanderbilt to play baseball, the Athletics came calling and drafted him in the first round of the 2012 MLB Draft. He would debut for the A’s on September 12, 2016 and then spend the next year splitting time between the majors and minors, but put up some great numbers when he was up.
2018 brought Olson’s full-time shot. He played all 162 and was used as a first baseman. He posted a .247 average with 29 home runs and 84 RBI. Maybe even more impressive though was that he picked up the first of two Gold Glove awards at first. He improved his offensive numbers in 2019 while playing 35 less games. He hit .367 with 36 home runs and 91 RBI, all for career highs.
Olson is a fun guy to watch and the Athletics seem to be a fun young team to watch as well. They are usually the underdog to some big clubs in the AL so I find myself on their side if I am watching one of their games. I’m definitely excited to see where Olson can go when things get back up and running.
The Score on Matt Olson – 5.5
This is one of those returns where Spring Training has a chance to keep on giving. I sent this one in February of 2019 and got it back prior to Spring Training this year. So Matt might be a guy who goes back to all of the stuff he has when he gets a chance. He has a really whispy autograph. It still has pretty good size, but I feel like a thicker marker would look awesome with this. These cards are just a bit too busy to show it off really well though.
Thanks Mr. Olson! I’m giving this return a 5.5.
