The Story of the Autograph
Marc Sullivan is a former backup catcher in the major leagues. He played in five seasons between 1981 and 1987 and spent his entire career with the Boston Red Sox.
Sullivan was born and raised in Massachusetts and is the son of former Red Sox player and general manager Haywood Sullivan. After high school he went on to attend the University of Florida. The Red Sox (and his father) drafted him in the second round of the 1979 MLB Draft. He would make his major league debut on October 1, 1982.
He only played in two games to end that first taste in the majors, then he wouldn’t appear again until 1984. He again would only appear in two major league games. Sullivan was more of a defensive option as his career average was .186 with a with a high of .193 when he had any significant playing time.
The Red Sox traded him to the Astros in 1987 but he wouldn’t appear in a major league game for them.
The Score on Marc Sullivan – 6.5
Marc has a pretty classic style of signature. This is one of those cases where I think the thin marker works great for his signature because it can show the detail. But then the problem is it gets a little buried with anything significant going on with the image on the card. It definitely gets buried on the 1987 Topps card.
Thanks Mr. Sullivan! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
