The Story of the Autograph
Lynn Jones played as an outfielder in Major League Baseball from 1979 to 1986. He played for the Detroit Tigers and the Kansas City Royals.
Jones was born and raised in Pennsylvania and attended Thiel College. During his time there he set the single-season batting record with an average of .440 in 1974. The first team to draft him was the Cincinnati Reds in the 10th round of the 1974 Draft, but he didn’t sign. Then in 1978 the Tigers took him in the Rule 5 Draft.
He made his debut in April the next year and was Detroit’s best rookie that year. He played 95 games that year and hit .296 with four homers, 26 RBI and nine stolen bases. He wouldn’t play more than 71 games for the Tigers after that and in December of 1983 he was granted free agency and signed with the Royals.
At first this was a bit unlucky as the Tigers went on to win the World Series in 1984, but the Royals would do the same in 1985 while Jones was still with them. He went 2-3 with a double and a triple in the 1985 World Series.
After his playing days he went into managing in the minors and would also coach in the majors.
The Score on Lynn Jones – 6.0
Lynn has a pretty solid autograph. I think these cards just don’t all give it a good showcase or on a couple he put it in an awkward place. You might also notice that Lynn doesn’t always keep his pen to the card consistently like on the ’85 Topps card.
Thanks Mr. Jones! I’m giving these a 6.
