The Story of the Autograph
Luis Gomez is a former shortstop in the major leagues. He played from 1974 to 1981 with the Minnesota Twins, Toronto Blue Jays, and Atlanta Braves.
Gomez was born in Guadalajara, Mexico but grew up in Los Angeles. After high school he went on to attend UCLA. After successful years at UCLA he was drafted by the Twins in the seventh round of the 1973 MLB Draft. He got his first shot in the majors on April 28, 1974.
For the Twins he would played half a season in each of his first two years and then played under 40 games the next two years after that. He moved on to Toronto as a free agent in 1977 and was later traded to the Braves with Chris Chambliss for Barry Bonnell among others.
Gomez was your typical light-hitting shortstop. He had zero home runs in his career and had a lifetime .210 average. But he made up for that with his glove.
The Score on Luis Gomez – 6.0
Luis has a nice signature, especially that “L”. I think the green marker is an interesting choice, but it didn’t come out great on that 1981 Topps card. That said, it goes so well with the greens that are part of these card designs.
Thanks Mr. Gomez! I’m giving this return a 6 overall.
