The Story of the Autograph
Kurt Kepshire is a former right-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He played from 1984 to 1986 and spent that time with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Kepshire was born and raised in Connecticut. He attended the University of New Haven and was then drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 25th round of the 1979 MLB Draft. He spent several years in the Reds minor league system but never appeared in the majors for them. The Cardinals picked him up in the 1982 Rule 5 Draft and he continued on in their minor league system until debuting on July 4, 1984.
He made 17 appearance that first year with 16 starts going 6-5 with a 3.39 ERA. He had a pretty good second year when he put up a 10-9 record with a 4.75 ERA. That season the Cardinals battled the Mets all year and would end up in the World Series. They would eventually lose to the Kansas City Royals, but Kepshire would not be on any of the postseason rosters. He played in one more season in 1986 but only appeared twice.
He was back in the minors with the Cardinals and then tried to make it back with the Expos and Twins before calling it a career.
The Score on Kurt Kepshire – 6.0
Kurt has a good signature with those repetitive letters. It’s sort of a mixed of a stacked signature and a more traditional signature “on a line”. That makes everything overlap a bit, but you can still see those “Ks”. I think that 1985 Topps card has a bit of a smudge on it and unfortunately that’s the card it had the best change to come out well on.
Thanks Mr. Kepshire! I’m giving this return a 6.
