The Story of the Autograph

Kirk Dressendorfer is a former right-handed pitcher in the major leagues. He played during the 1991 season with the Oakland Athletics.

Dressendorfer is a native of Texas. He was first drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 34th round of the 1987 MLB Draft. He didn’t sign with them though and opted to go to Texas to play baseball for the Longhorns. He turned out to be a great collegiate pitcher and would be inducted to the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2009.

The Oakland Athletics then took him with a first round pick in the 1990 MLB Draft, one of their four first rounders because of compensation for losing free agents. That group that included Todd Van Poppel, Donal Peters and Dave Zancanaro was dubbed the “Four Aces”. But only two of them, Dressendorfer and Van Poppel would ever reach the majors. He made his major league debut on April 13, 1991.

During the one season that he pitched in the majors he went 3-3 in seven games with all of them starts and put up a 5.45 ERA. He would bounce around the minor leagues for the rest of his career. He finally retired after the 1997 season.

The Score on Kirk Dressendorfer – 6.5

Kirk has a pretty small signature for someone with such a long name. He kind of takes shortcuts with both his first and last name in a way. I think his first name looks like “Kk” and his last name looks like “Df”. I think the best one of these is the 1992 Donruss card because you can see the signature so much better. But I like the cards themselves better for the other two.

Thanks Mr. Dressendorfer! I’m giving this return a 6.5 overall.
