The Story of the Autograph
Keith Van Horn is a former forward in the NBA. He played from 1997 to 2006 with the New Jersey Nets, Philadelphia 76ers, New York Knicks, Milwaukee Bucks and Dallas Mavericks.
Van Horn was born and raised in California. He played his college basketball for the Utah Utes under Rick Majerus. While there he was an All-American twice (one First-team and one Second-team) and was a three-time WAC Player of the Year and four-time First-team All-WAC. He left school as the career leader in points for the conference as well as the points, defensive rebounds, and three-pointers made leader for the school. Utah got as high as #2 in the national rankings while there.
The Philadelphia 76ers drafted him with the second overall pick in the first round of the 1997 NBA Draft. But he was immediately traded to the Nets with Michael Cage, Lucious Harris and Don MacLean for Tim Thomas, Anthony Parker, Jim Jackson and Eric Montross. He was an All-Rookie selection in that first season and helped the team to the playoffs in 1998. He was also a key part of the 2001-’02 team that went to the Finals and lost to the Lakers.
He would be traded a few times in his career and moved around a lot after his time in New Jersey. He was traded to the 76ers who originally drafted him, then to the Knicks in the deal that brought Latrell Sprewell to New York. The Knicks traded him to the Bucks for Tim Thomas. That was the second time in their careers the players were in deals involving each other. He would finally end up in Dallas where he was a key part of the bench. He would make it back to the NBA Finals with them but lose to the Heat.
Van Horn took the 2005-’06 season off to be with his family. He signed with the Mavs again only to be traded to the Nets in the deal for Jason Kidd, but he didn’t play and was waived.
The Score on Keith Van Horn – 8.0
There’s a lot of action in Keith’s signature. It’s just a lot of action bunched into a pretty condensed spot on the card. But that black marker really pops on this card. I love cards with the player in color and then a faded or black and white background like this because they help with that effect. I also like that I got him in a Nets uniform because he had some of his best seasons there. It looks like he only signs on card per request.
Thanks Mr. Van Horn! I’m giving this return an 8.
