The Story of the Autograph
Julio Borbon is a former outfielder in the major leagues. He played in all or part of five seasons from 2009 through 2016 with the Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs and Baltimore Orioles.
Borbon was born in Starkville, Mississippi where his father was a coach at Mississippi State. He attended high school in the Dominican Republic and played his college baseball at Tennessee. He helped the Volunteers to the College World Series in 2005 and was teammates with Chase Headley and Luke Hochevar. He was drafted in 2007 and at the time was a top-20 prospect overall according to Baseball America. The Rangers took him in the supplemental round as the 35th overall pick of the draft.
He made his major league debut on June 29, 2009. He appeared in 46 games that year and ended with a .312 batting average. It was the next season, in 2010, when he would get his best shot as a major league player. He appeared in 137 games and almost had 500 plate appearances. He went on to hit .276 with three homers (actually less than his rookie season) and 42 RBI.
But Borbon would go back down for the 2012 season and appear once for the Rangers in the 2013 season before being put on waivers. The Cubs claimed him in April but he didn’t stick with the team. He was then drafted by the Orioles in the Rule 5 Draft later that year because he didn’t stay on the Cubs roster. After that the Orioles signed him twice as a free agent but he didn’t appear in a game for them until 2016.
After a few stops in Mexico and some time with the Somerset Patriots, Borbon called it quits on March 1, 2019. From there he went into the Yankees organization as a coach.
The Score on Julio Borbon – 7.0
Julio has a pretty cools signature where everything is kind of on top of each other. It has a ton of loopy letters in there. I actually have doubles of these from when he was a player but these are much better than what I got in those days.
Thanks Mr. Borbon! I’m giving this return a 7.
