The Story of the Autograph
Jon Rauch was a right-handed relief pitcher in the major leagues from 2002 through 2013. He played in 11 seasons during that time for the White Sox, Expos/Nationals, Diamondbacks, Twins, Blue Jays, Mets and Marlins. At 6′ 11″, Rauch is the tallest player in MLB history.
Rauch was born and raised in Kentucky and went to school a Morehead State University. He was drafted by the White Sox in the third round of the 1999 draft. He debuted three years later for the White Sox on April 2, 2002. He did play great that first year and was back in the minors for the entire 2003 season. In July 2004, the White Sox traded Rauch to the Montreal Expos.
Montreal and Washington was where Rauch spent the majority of his career and where I remember him playing best. He had some of this best years between 2006 and 2008. In 2006 he posted a 3.35 ERA in 85 appearances which was second in the league. The next year he led the league wit 88 appearances, go 8-4, and still only posted a 3.61 ERA. Those eight wins would lead the team that year. The year after that, in 2008, he would become the team’s closer to replace Chad Cordero when he was injured. But he was traded to the Diamondbacks near the trade deadline that year for Emilio Bonifacio.
From there he would bounce around as a lot of relievers do. He finished his career with a 43-40 record, 3.90 ERA and 62 saves.
The Score on Jon Rauch – 6.0
Jon has an interesting autograph but it is small. It’s actually a little tough to tell it’s his name. That “J” looks a little ore like an “S” to me. He used a great marker though. It’s funny that all of these are update cards, but I guess that’s kind of the way it is when you are a reliever who moves around a lot.
Thanks Mr. Rauch. I’m giving these a 6.
