The Story of the Autograph

Jon Perlman, born on December 13, 1956, in Dallas, Texas, is a former Major League Baseball pitcher whose career spanned three seasons in the mid-1980s. A right-handed thrower and left-handed batter, Perlman stood 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighed 185 pounds during his playing days.

Perlman honed his baseball skills at Carthage High School in Texas before attending Baylor University. His performance at Baylor caught the attention of MLB scouts, leading to his selection by the Chicago Cubs as the 12th overall pick in the first round of the 1979 MLB Draft.

After progressing through the minor leagues, Perlman made his MLB debut with the Chicago Cubs on September 6, 1985. Over the course of his MLB career, he played for three teams: the Chicago Cubs (1985), the San Francisco Giants (1987), and the Cleveland Indians (1988).

In total, Perlman appeared in 26 major league games, all as a relief pitcher. He recorded a win-loss record of 1–2, an earned run average (ERA) of 6.35, and 17 strikeouts over 39.2 innings pitched.

Following his retirement from professional baseball, Perlman has maintained a low public profile. While specific details about his post-baseball endeavors are scarce, his contributions to the sport during his active years remain part of MLB history.

Jon Perlman’s journey from a first-round draft pick to a major league pitcher reflects the dedication and perseverance required to reach the highest levels of professional baseball.

The Score on Jon Perlman – 6.5

These are the only cards that I’m aware of for Jon. He could have some minor league cards as he was in the minors for a bit, but there aren’t that many of those floating around from those days. His signature is a really nice one. It’s too bad the 1989 Topps card has so much dark space to try to sign over. The better card is the 1988 Fleer card.

Thanks Mr. Perlman! I’m giving this return a 6.5 overall.
