The Story of the Autograph
Johnnie LeMaster is a former shortstop in the major leagues. He played from 1975 to 1987 with the San Francisco Giants, Cleveland Indians, Pittsburgh Pirates, and Oakland Athletics.
LeMaster was born in Ohio and grew up in Kentucky. He was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the first round of the 1973 MLB Draft with the sixth overall pick of the draft. He made his major league debut with them on September 2, 1975. In his first at bat he became the third player ever to debut with an inside the park homer run in his first at bat.
In 12 season he would only ever hit 22 home runs, with a career high of six in 1983. He was the typical light-hitting shortstop with a .222 career average. That 1983 season was probably the best he had in his career. He played in a career high 141 games that season with six homers, 30 RBI, and a .240 batting average. It was the only time in his career that he would eclipse 100 hits for the season.
In 1985 he played for three last place teams, the Giants, the Indians, and the Pirates. First he was traded to Cleveland for Mike Jeffcoat and Luis Quinones in May. Then he was traded to Pittsburgh for a player to be named later. That player would end up being Scott Bailes.
He would try to make it with the Expos before getting a shot with the A’s and then tried again with the White Sox. But he never made it to the majors with the Expos or White Sox.
The Score on Johnnie LeMaster – 6.0
These cards are either way to dark or way to busy to help Johnnie show off his signature. In fact, that 1986 Topps card might be one of the darkest cards I’ve had anyone attempt to sign. I think my favorite of these is the 1978 Topps card as I’ve been building up my signatures on that set in recent years.
Thanks Mr. LeMaster! I’m giving this return a 6 overall.
