The Story of the Autograph

John Outlaw is a former defensive back in the NFL. He played from 1969 to 1978 with the Boston/New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Outlaw is a native of Mississippi. He went to college at Jackson State and then was drafted by the then Boston Patriots of the American Football League (AFL) in the tenth round of the AFL Draft. The Patriots joined the NFL when the leagues merged and they would soon become the New England Patriots while he was there.

In 1973 he moved on to Philadelphia and would be there for the second half of his ten year career. He played the most games with the Eagles, a starter for the vast majority of games he played in. His best year statistically was 1975 when he had a career high five interceptions and added four fumble recoveries to his turnover tally.

This is such an odd one. In the days of heavy airbrushing, they didn’t touch John’s card this year. The red uniform with the “EAGLES” at the bottom definitely looks odd. I wish I had more cards of his. I’m pretty sure I found this at a card show where I dig through some cheap boxes and I’m surprised I didn’t find more from him. Oh well, there’s always more card shows.

Thanks Mr. Outlaw! I’m giving this return a 6.5.
