The Story of the Autograph
John Doherty is a former pitcher in the major leagues. He worked as both a starter and a reliever, mostly for the Detroit Tigers from 1992 to 1995, but also for the Boston Red Sox in 1996.
Doherty is a New York native. He went to Concordia College where the Tigers chose him in the 1989 MLB Draft in the 19th round. He made his major league debut of the tiers on April 8, 1992. In his first two seasons he had winning records going 7-4 and 14-11 respecitively. The first season was mostly as a reliever and his second was almost entirely as a starter.
In 1994 he got less chances with just 18 games played and 17 starts, but he wasn’t pitching as well as his first two seasons. His ERA climbed to a career high 6.48 and he had a 6-7 record for the season. After one more year as a Tiger, this time in mostly a relief role, he was let go. The Red Sox picked him up and he played a few games for them with his last major league game played on April 15, 1996.
The Score on John Doherty – 7.0
John has a pretty interesting signature. Most of his name is curved, but for his capital letters it’s all angles. That definitely adds some character to his signature, especially that “D”. I love the angle and how none of the lines are connected in that. He doesn’t connect lines on the “J” either.
Thanks Mr. Doherty! I’m giving this return a 7.
