The Story of the Autograph
Joe Wolf is a former center in the NBA. He played from 1987 to 1999 with the Log Angeles Clippers, Denver Nuggets (twice), Boston Celtics, Portland Trail Blazers, Charlotte Hornets (twice), Orlando Magic, and Milwaukee Bucks. He currently coaches with the Wisconsin Herd in the G-League.
Wolf is a native of Wisconsin. He played his college basketball with the North Carolina Tar Heels for Dean Smith. While there he was part of teams that made the NCAA tournament in every year of his college tenure. He was an ACC First-Team and ACC All-Tournament Team player. The Clippers drafted him with the 13th overall pick of the 1987 NBA Draft.
Always a bench player in the league, he never started more than 38 games. He did that in his fourth year in the league after moving to the Nuggest. After that only started 37 more games for the entirety of his career. He averaged as many as 7.6 points per game in his rookie season but that was the year he spent the most minutes on the floor at 27.1 minutes per game. He would average over seven points per game again in 1990-91, but otherwise never went over six.
After playing he went into coaching. He’s worked as an assistant in college at William & Mary and UNC Wilmington, and in the NBA with the Bucks and Nets. He’s also worked as a head coach and assistant for a few G League teams.
In 2005 he was voted to the all-time Wisconsin high school boys basketball team. As part of that vote he was voted the greatest all-time high school player in the state’s history after dominating while with Kohler High School.
The Score on Joe Wolf – 6.5
This is a touch one for Joe. These are not the greatest cards to get signed as they images are busy and dark, like a lot of basketball cards. I think the Upper Deck card came out the best of all, but only slightly. He used a good marker and did the absolute best he could with it. I’m glad I got him in Clippers and Nuggets uniforms because that’s where he had his best years in the league.
