The Story of the Autograph
Joe Strain is a former second baseman in the major leagues. His short major league career lasted from 1979 to 1981 and during that time he played for the San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs.
Strain is a native of Colorado. He went to college at the University of Northern Colorado. He was signed by the Giants as an amateur free agent in June of 1976. He made his major league debut three years later on June 28, 1979. He spent two years with the Giants but never played more than 77 games in any season.
In December of 1980 he was traded with Phil Nastu for Jesus Figueroa, Jerry Martin and a player to be named later. He only played 26 more games with the Cubs. For his career he hit .250 with one homer and 19 RBI.
The Score on Joe Strain – 5.5
I think you can see the action in Joe’s signature. It isn’t necessarily a special style or anything but there’s definitely some action to it. This is a great example of why I like certain colors on certain cards. The blue just looks great on the Cubs card. While it doesn’t look as good on the Giants card, and maybe black would stick out less on the card, I still like the color coordination.
Thanks Mr. Strain! I’m giving this return a 5.5.
