The Story of the Autograph
Joe Lefebvre is a former outfielder in the major leagues. He played from 1980 to 1986, missing the 1985 season. Over those years he played for the New York Yankees, San Diego Padres, and Philadelphia Phillies.
Lefebvre was born on February 22, 1956, in Concord, New Hampshire. Growing up in New Hampshire, his athletic talent became apparent at an early age. He attended the Eckerd College in St. Petersburg Florida, where he starred on the baseball team. Lefebvre’s collegiate success caught the attention of professional scouts, and in 1977, he was drafted by the New York Yankees in the third round of the MLB Draft.
He made his MLB debut with the Yankees on May 22, 1980. A versatile player, Lefebvre could play both outfield and third base, which made him a valuable asset to his teams. He began his career with the Yankees, but after a trade before the season in 1981, he found himself playing for the San Diego Padres, where he enjoyed the best years of his career.
In 1982, Lefebvre hit .238 with four home runs and 21 RBIs in 101 games for the Padres, establishing himself as a reliable contributor. His ability to play multiple positions and provide solid offense made him a part of the Padres’ lineup.
Lefebvre’s time in San Diego was followed by stints with the Philadelphia Phillies, where he played from 1983 to 1984 and 1986. During his time with the Phillies, he was a part of the team that won the National League pennant in 1983, contributing to their run to the World Series. Over six MLB seasons, Lefebvre compiled a .258 batting average with 31 home runs and 130 RBIs in 447 games. While his career numbers might not leap off the page, Lefebvre was known as a steady, dependable player who always played the game the right way.
After retiring as a player, Lefebvre remained in baseball, moving into coaching and player development. His deep knowledge of the game, coupled with his ability to connect with players, made him a natural fit for these roles.
Lefebvre began his coaching career in the minor leagues, working his way up to coaching positions with the Phillies. He worked with the Yankees as a scout and hitting instructor in New York. He also held roles in the San Francisco Giants’ organization, where he contributed to coaching, scouting and player evaluation. Lefebvre’s impact on the game extended beyond the field, as he became a mentor to many young players, offering guidance not only on their playing careers but also on navigating the challenges of professional baseball.
The Score on Joe Lefebvre – 7.0
This is a really nice return from Joe. It’s the first time I had ever attempted a return from him and I’m really glad I did. I got him in a few uniforms which I always like and there are some really nice cards for signing. The 1982 Topps was not an easy one, but the other Topps cards came out really great. I think my favorite is the 1984 Topps.
Thanks Mr. Lefebvre! I’m giving this return a 7.
